Ekphrasis: Writing About Art

This seminar offers first-year students an engaged introduction to ekphrastic writing, or writing about art, with an emphasis on poetry. Participants in this seminar and discussion-based course will regularly visit art spaces, most frequently the RISD Museum. Informed by texts written by poets, novelists, and cultural critics, students will regularly compose creative and critical responses to art.
