Catalog description

This course offers the opportunity to explore the dynamics of the intersection of ethnic, religious, and gender identities in modern Israel. Central themes of the course will include social hierarchy among identity groups in Israel, the challenges of integrating new immigrants into Israeli society, conflicts in values among members of the population, prejudice, and discrimination. The course will focus on a variety of identity groups, including Jews of European origin, Jews of Middle Eastern and North African origin, recent Jewish immigrants from Russia and Ethiopia, Palestinians, Bedouins, Druze, Ultra-Orthodox Jews, Religious Zionist Jews, the religious-secular divide, LGBTQ+ identities, and feminism.
