Catalog description
This course offers students an immersive experience in learning health systems (LHS) and community-based participatory research, focusing on pragmatic research supporting real-world decision-making and quality improvement. The course prepares students with foundational knowledge and experience in designing and conducting LHS projects. The course combines classroom-based seminar discussions and presentations with partnered research opportunities to provide students with a foundation in the intersecting fields of LHS research, partner engagement, quality improvement and implementation science, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to projects that generate timely, relevant, and useful information to help healthcare partners improve. Classroom-based lectures and discussions will characterize key components of the LHS, the cycle of learning, and highlight a range of LHS research competencies. Through partnerships with healthcare organizations, students will gain hands-on experience engaging providers as collaborators, building partnerships, and applying research methods to real-world needs and contexts.
