This is a seminar on three forms of temporality — waiting, suspension, and rupture — and the coming to an end that all imply. These forms will be explored as pertaining to politics, theology, art, and experience. The work will be theoretical and hermeneutic; it will involve theoretical texts in political and critical theory and political theology, literary works, and films. We will explore time from the perspective of (its) ending. We will be interested in the prospect — whether a menace or a blessing — of a coming end, but also with the power and authority to bring an end, to an argument, to waiting in line, to a relationship, to life. We will study the power to suspend a coming end and the life under its shadow.
