Catalog description

This reading and writing intensive seminar exposes students to the history of economic thought. Each year it is offered, we make our way through a different set of materials that touch upon a variety of topics, including theories of value, property, markets, labor, and inequality. We will also ask how ideas about the relationship between capitalism and other forms of economic production have changed over time. In the Fall of 2025, we will discuss the work of Karl Marx, focusing especially on a new translation of his magnum opus, Das Kapital, which has recently been published.
