Understanding the Palestinians

Palestinians are largely absent in narratives about the “Arab-Israeli Conflict.” This course introduces new scholarship that centers Palestinian experiences and agency within the larger thematics of capitalism, colonialism, nationalism, and indigeneity. Ultimately, we ask: Who are the Palestinians? What does their transformation from a largely peasant society into a dispossessed, displaced, and stateless people tell us about the making of the modern world? And why has the Palestinian condition become a signifier for global struggles for justice, equality freedom, and a shared world?
