Catalog description

HISP 0650 studies literature and film from Latin America and Spain through critical reading and analytical writing. The course serves as an introduction to the literatures and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, covering a range of periods and genres (e.g. the short story, the novel, poetry, theater, film, and non-fiction). Beyond offering a historical and contextualized panorama of cultural production from the Spanish-speaking world, HISP 0650 will also help you develop new strategies for reading, writing, and thinking about literature and film, preparing you for more advanced literature and culture courses at the 1000 level. Placement: Two HISP courses at the 500 level; HISP 600; or Brown Placement test score of 651 or above.
