Courses at the 500 level advance students’ Spanish language skills through engagement with a wide range of authentic materials (literary and non-fiction texts, film, podcasts, and more), preparatory individual work for class discussion, and projects completed outside of class, while expanding and refining knowledge of the Spanish language system. HISP0500A focuses on the lived experience of youth, exploring diverse perspectives, experiences and challenges of young people in the Spanish-speaking world, including Latinx communities in the US. Topics include identity, beliefs and values, cultural expression, relationships and technology, among others. An additional conversation section (one hour/week) is required. HISP 0400 , Brown placement test score 541-650. Check Placement and Course Description in the Undergraduate Program section of the Hispanic Studies website. Enrollment limited to 15; 12 spaces available during pre-registration, 3 additional spaces available at start of semester.
