Catalog description
How do we read Herodotus' Histories in today's post-truth era? Once known as part of the 'Liar School', today's 'Father of History' is better understood as a commentator on cultural difference, an artful story teller, and an astute observer of historical methods. This course focuses on Herodotus Book I and the short stories of Croesus, Cyrus, the rise of the Persian empire, the Greeks in Asia Minor, Athens, and Sparta. This Advanced Greek course is suitable for Undergraduates (including those who have recently completed GREK0400) and Graduates. Assessment is formative and summative; no summatively assessed written examinations.
