Catalog description

This course will both introduce students to important female-authored texts from the 19th century to the present, and address theoretical issues pertaining to women and writing. Topics include: the relation of gender to genre; development of feminist thought; women's relation to masculine literary traditions. George Sand, Rachilde, Colette, Simone de Beauvoir, Marguerite Duras, Annie Ernaux. Pre Requisites: A course at the 600- or 700-level or equivalent proficiency.
