Catalog description

The Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman (1950-2015) has directed over forty works, ranging from fiction to documentaries and experimental films. Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Brussels is a true masterpiece, considered one of the best films in the history of cinema. Family history (her mother’s deportation to Auschwitz) and collective history intertwine in front of her camera: her feminism stages the everyday experience of domestic spaces (above all, the kitchen) and the relationship with the mother figure, family and tradition. On the tenth anniversary of her death, this course offers an introduction to her filmography. Taught in French.
