Jacques Derrida (1930-2004) is one of the most prominent figures within the group of influential French thinkers whose work dominated the intellectual scene of the second half of the 20th century. His writings have had a profound influence in various fields and disciplines. The class will study a selection of Derrida’s texts that exemplify both the breadth and depth of his thinking, in relation, especially, to philosophy, literary studies, visual arts, politics, law, and technology. French language knowledge is not required. French concentrators and others wishing to exercise their French should consult about readings and writing exercises in French.
