Advanced Topics in Computational Mechanics: Isogeometric Analysis, Meshfree Methods, and FSI
Brown University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course aims at exposing the graduate students in mechanics and beyond to the ideas and methods that go beyond classical Finite Element Methods (FEMs) for solid mechanics. The course will cover the following topics: 1. Isogeometric Analysis (IGA); 2. Meshfree methods, such as the Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM) or Peridynamics (PD); 3. Stabilized and variational multiscale (VMS) methods for fluid mechanics and Fluid--Structure Interaction (FSI). We will use Jupyter as the platform for testing the ideas presented in the lectures. Students will also be asked to read recent research papers in the field and make informal presentations.
