Catalog description
Applications of mechanics to biological systems over a range of scales, including microscopic scales of cells and cellular components, intermediate scales of tissues and muscles, and macroscopic scales of organs, joints, locomotion, and whole organisms. Dimensional analysis and scaling; elasticity, visoelasticity, poroelasticity applied to tissue mechanics, models for muscle contraction; mechanics of the cytoskeleton, biopolymers, cell membranes, and cell adhesion. Prerequisites: ENGN 0040 or equivalents, APMA 0330 .
