Numerical Methods in Engineering

Catalog description
This course focuses on the numerical solution of common problems encountered in engineering, using modern scientific computing tools. A theoretical background into these methods is essential to their accurate and efficient application. Therefore, this course will provide both the theoretical underpinnings as well as the practical use of such methods, as applied to physical problems from engineering and the chemical sciences wherever possible. Topics covered include linear algebra, model formulation and nondimensionalization, optimization and nonlinear systems, graph theory, numerical integration, atomistic and molecular simulation, Bayesian inference, and data analysis.
