Catalog description

How do you locate, evaluate, cite, and integrate research in your creative nonfiction? This course will provide strategies for searching for and encountering sources, figuring out which ones to trust, citing them, and using them in your own creative nonfiction. Reading will include a wide variety of media, including traditional sources such as the AP, Reuters, and inter/national news outlets; advertising and broadcast sales-oriented media; state sanctioned media, such as state and federal websites, broadcasts, speeches, or posts; influencer-based informational social media; and other kinds of in-person sources, such as interviews, citizen-based observation footage, and the like. Students will be expected both to provide written evaluations and critiques of sources and to draft their own creative nonfiction using their research.
