Translating Place

Catalog description

In this class, students will explore how to translate a place into text. For the first half of the semester, we will use weekly drills to emulate the approaches of a wide variety of authors and artists, including Anne Carson, Don Mee Choi, Valeria Luiselli, Do Ho Suh, Walid Raad, An-My Lê, and Ilya Kabakov. During the second half of the semester, each student will choose a location on which to base a long-form piece.
