This course examines the fantasies, historical practices, and political forces shaping reanimation and otherworldly communication in literature from medieval grimoires to contemporary American film. Authors/directors include: Shakespeare, Marlowe, Milton, Cavendish, Shelley, Lovecraft, Rymer ( AHS ), Bayona ( Penny Dreadful ), Sackheim ( Lovecraft Country ), and Fell/Butler ( ParaNorman ). Enrollment limited to 17.
