AI & Education: Critical and Applied Perspectives

What does it mean to learn in a world of “thinking machines”? Artificial Intelligence is not simply a technology to be adopted or managed; it exposes the structural contradictions and limits of traditional education itself: how neoliberal logics shape institutions, how outdated cognitive models persist, and how assessment practices reduce understanding to proxies. “AI cheating,” for example, will be explored not as a moral failure but as evidence of a system that prioritizes representation over reality. Through readings, discussions, and projects involving generative AI tools, students will engage three threads: (1) critical analysis of both educational and AI systems, (2) epistemological tensions embedded in approaches to cognition and learning, and (3) design strategies for addressing AI’s “colonization” of teaching and learning.
