Psychology of Hearing

Catalog description

This course considers how we sense and comprehend the world through sound. Laboratory sessions focus on principles of acoustics, experiments on sound propagation, and demonstrations of loudness, pitch, and musical timbre. Class discussions explore topics such as pitch perception, speech perception, music cognition, and auditory scene analysis. Students design and conduct independent research projects on some aspect of hearing.
