BIOL 2115
Translational Science and Management in Biotechnology
Brown University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course examines how scientific data are transformed into strategic decisions throughout the drug development pipeline. Students will gain an integrated understanding of the drug lifecycle while learning how translational data and biomarkers guide discovery, development, and business milestones. Additionally, we will examine how cross-functional teams apply project and program management principles to advance therapies from the laboratory to the clinic. Through real-world case studies and applied projects, students will practice how biotech teams make decisions and manage programs. Two distinct therapeutic modalities will be emphasized while applying translational concepts: small molecules as a traditional foundation and gene therapies as an emerging paradigm. This course is intended for graduate students seeking to develop a translational management mindset.
