Contemporary Native American Fiction

Catalog description

This course examines Native American literary expression from 1968 to the contemporary. We will focus on fiction, particularly the short story and novel genres, to think about how Native Americans creatively mobilize these literary forms to combat a history of misrepresentation and erasure in the American literary canon and national imaginary. We will consider how these authors utilize fiction to express the realities of Native American life under ongoing United States settler colonial occupation.
