Catalog description

Interdisciplinary course looks at the migration, representation and cultural productions of the South Asian diaspora in the United States. We'll examine how category of "South Asian" was created as well as the ramifications of such a label: what does it mean to be South Asian in the United States? Through the examination of academic texts, as well as literature, television and film, we'll explore how South Asian Americans navigate the United States while at the same time, maintaining (or, in some cases, disrupting) connections to countries in the South Asian subcontinent. Enrollment limited to 17.
