Catalog description

This course examines the city through a societally based lens. Students will learn about the evolution of cities throughout history, the impact of the industrial city on social life, ways urban design can help solve social problems (crime, traffic, social isolation, deviance, group conflicts), and how to identify solutions in working toward a city that is beneficial to all. In short, students learn how understanding the relationship between the city and social life can help make the world a better place.
