Therapeutic Rec. Sr. Intern.
Brigham Young University-Idaho · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Internship credits are exempt from tuition charges. However, an administrative fee equal to one credit hour at the current rate of tuition will be charged for an internship course. The fee is in addition to any tuition charges for other classes. Fees are charged independently of tuition and are not subject to the 12-credit tuition cap. This culminating course in Therapeutic Recreation aligns with the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) requirements, mandating a comprehensive 560-hour (14 consecutive weeks) internship in therapeutic recreation services. The internship emphasizes the application of the therapeutic recreation process, as defined by the current NCTRC Job Analysis Study. Under the joint supervision of academic and agency field placement supervisors, both NCTRC CTRS certified, students engage in real-world, hands-on experiences that prepare them for professional practice. With a commitment of at least 20 hours per week and no more than 45 hours per week, students work under the guidance of a primary supervisor, ensuring a substantial focus on therapeutic recreation services. The primary supervisor must dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per week to the agency, with 50% of their duties directly related to therapeutic recreation services. As a crucial step in professional development, students are required to contact the Therapeutic Recreation Internship Coordinator when planning and registering for their internship experience.
