In this course students will explore the dynamic field of Therapeutic Recreation. Through comprehensive study, they will gain a deep understanding of the role of recreation and leisure in enhancing well-being and quality of life. Students will become familiar with essential terminology and foundational concepts related to Therapeutic Recreation. They will delve into the Therapeutic Recreation process, covering assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. By examining how recreational activities contribute to positive outcomes, students will appreciate the impact of tailored interventions. Additionally, they will identify diverse client populations that benefit from Therapeutic Recreation and learn strategies for selecting appropriate leisure activities. As they explore career paths within the field, students will recognize the importance of ongoing professional growth. This course is required for students specializing in Therapeutic Recreation and professionals who wish to work in fields such as healthcare and social services. Note: Students are required to obtain practicum hours for the course; it is highly recommended to register for RM 366L or RM 373, as these provide opportunities that will help students obtain the required practicum hours. Students may obtain the required practicum hours through an approval process. Course modalities are offered on an alternating schedule. Consult with the department to plan according to the student's preferred modality.
