Wilderness First Aid

Catalog description
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to medical emergencies in wilderness and remote settings. Emphasizing hands-on learning and practical scenarios, students may gain a Wilderness First Aid certification, CPR/AED certification, and develop the confidence to address injuries and illnesses when traditional emergency services are not readily available. The course covers patient assessment, common wilderness injuries and illnesses, medical decision-making, and essential survival skills. There may be one overnight or late-night field trip during the semester to engage in a mock First Aid activity.
