Catalog description

This is the second course of the calculus-based Principles of Physics sequence. It is designed for students majoring in physics, chemistry, geology, civil engineering, and mathematics. The course covers topics in waves, thermodynamics, and optics. These areas of study are important in a wide variety of scientific disciplines and in engineering. For example, an understanding of wave properties is essential in applications such as wireless communications as well as all aspects of acoustics. Thermodynamics has a variety of applications in engine design and heat transfer. Finally, principles of optics are involved in communication, instrument design, scanners, surveillance, etc.
