Catalog description

This course is a large jazz ensemble open by audition to all students. The course focuses on the fundamentals of jazz, with a particular emphasis on straight-ahead (or swing) styles. Fundamental concepts in improvisation, including transcription and analysis are covered. Guest artists often perform with the group, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with professionals of the highest caliber. The primary goal of Jazz Lab Band is to prepare and perform jazz music in a variety of styles in a concert. Auditing may be allowed with instructor approval.
