Catalog description

This course introduces literary genres such as fiction, poetry, drama, and literary theory to students in English, English education, Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Studies. This class prepares students for success in future English classes because they gain the tools to read and analyze literature. In particular, students learn how to analyze specific details from literary works and then use that analysis to make and support effective written arguments. Students also learn how to use a variety of different theoretical lenses to find new avenues for analyzing and understanding literature. These reading, analysis, and critical thinking skills prepare students for a variety of disciplines or jobs.
