Catalog description

In ENG 217, you will find meaning in the Great Books of the World as you learn to read, appreciate, interpret, and critically analyze books across historical and cultural contexts. Discover the relevance of storytelling as you explore significant themes related to the human condition, engage with life's profound questions, gain empathy for experiences different from your own, and evaluate for yourself what it means to "seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom" (Doctrine and Covenants 88:118). The course includes reading books of lasting impact, synthesizing and evaluating interpretations, and supporting individual analysis through essays. This course is for students of any major.
