Catalog description

In the Language Arts Methods course, students learn how to engage all students in the writing process based on the science of reading. This course teaches students to evaluate various types of writing and use assessment information to provide personalized feedback and support to students with diverse learning profiles. Students learn evidence-based structured literacy practices for teaching developmental spelling and handwriting, written expression, content area writing, conventions, and research skills. Students also learn instructional methods to help all learners develop their writing skills in various formats, including written, visual, digital, and oral communication. Additionally, the course explores the characteristics of struggling writers, such as English learners and students with dyslexia and dysgraphia, and how to adapt instruction to meet their needs.
