Advanced Phonics

Catalog description
This course builds on foundational literacy concepts learned in Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Standard 1 to provide students with a deep understanding of the structures and subsystems of language (phonological awareness, phonics, orthography, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics) and the interrelationship of these literacy elements. Students learn components of instruction necessary to teach the structures of language that lead to fluent reading, reading comprehension, and effective writing. Students also learn to analyze reading and writing errors then plan explicit instruction within a structured literacy framework.
