Catalog description

This course is the second in a series of literacy courses, based on the science of reading, that focuses on the Language Comprehension strand of Scarborough's Reading Rope. Students learn how to assess reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, analyze data to guide instructional decision-making, and design instruction to support literacy development for all learners, including English learners and students with reading disabilities such as dyslexia. Students learn to apply textual structure knowledge to promote reading development and support comprehension of children's literature, content subjects, and disciplinary text. This course also teaches students to identify the characteristics of struggling readers, including dyslexia, and apply appropriate accommodations and adaptations according to laws related to learning disabilities.
