Curriculum for Toddlers

Catalog description

Theorists, principles, and practices related to the field of early childhood will be examined. Evaluating, planning, and delivering developmentally appropriate, evidence-based curriculum for diverse populations of toddlers and their families will be studied. Including but not limited to toddlers with and without disabilities, toddlers who are considered at risk for a delay, and/or toddlers who are learning English as a second language. The developmental standards (e.g., Early Learning Guidelines, etc.) related to supporting child growth will be introduced. Activity planning skills will be taught and fostered with a focus on domain specific content (e.g., cognitive, communication, social/emotional, motor, adaptive behavior, and aesthetic) and toddler appropriate curricula areas (e.g., Art, math, science, movement, literacy etc.) The course will address licensing standards including completing required Infant/Adult CPR and First Aid trainings, TB testing, and state determined background checks. These must be successfully completed before applying for ECSE 350L Toddler Experience. Finally, this class should be taken the semester before enrolling in ECSE 350B Early Childhood Curriculum & Guidance for Toddlers and the ECSE 350L Toddler Experience.
