General Microbiology

Catalog description

This course explores the key differences between bacteria and viruses (both beneficial and harmful to the body) and the ability of these microbes to cause human infectious disease. Students learn current methods used to identify microbes, control their spread, and ways the body can defend against infection. Students learn to apply scientific reasoning to validate current clinical approaches to controlling infectious disease to assist in future efforts to protect their health and the health of others. This course is a common prerequisite for nursing and other allied health programs.
