MUSC 280
Music Through Fiction
University of Bridgeport · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
“Music through Fiction” is a course in which students will learn musical repertoire, and read works of fiction in which that same repertoire appears. The music becomes part of a larger context when it becomes entwined within a story. Students will be required to buy and read several books for the course. This course counts within the music major, but is also open to students from other majors (for core credit) who have an interest in the musical material that will be covered in the class. Writing assignments and exams will provide an opportunity to develop an understanding of the interaction between the music and the fiction. Students will also occasionally be required to prepare observations ahead of class and to distribute a pedagogically effective handout that will allow them to lead a discussion.
