This course introduces mechanical design and manufacturing using a digital thread to connect various Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) modules, including CAD (Computer-Aided Design), CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) and PDM (Product Data Management). Topics include development of mechanical design concepts, design methodology, design for manufacturing, engineering materials selection, and manufacturing processes. Students will follow a complete product development process, by designing parts via sketches and CAD, evaluating performance using CAE, developing manufacturing programs in CAM, and optimizing their parts for final manufacturing.
