VLSI (Very-large-scale integration) is the enabling technology and physical foundation of modern computers, smart phones and Information Technology (IT). Modern VLSI chips may contain millions to billions of transistors with feature size down to deep-submicron or even nanometer domain. As complexity and integration level of VLSI continues to grow, efficient design strategies must be introduced in modern VLSI technology. This course aims at giving students a comprehensive introduction about CMOS digital VLSI design from bottom transistor and layout level all the way up to the high level of HDL (Hardware Description Language) design. It covers the design, simulation, fabrication, power minimization and testing of various CMOS VLSI circuits, including combinational, sequential circuits, memory logic and custom datapath circuit design. Students will also understand the power analysis, testing, debugging and verification of VLSI circuits. Students will also practice VLSI circuit design and simulation with various VLSI EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools.
