Catalog description

This course is designed to give students a thorough background in classical topics of College Algebra from the perspective of an educator who many need a general knowledge of this material to teach elementary mathematics.  The basic topics of functions and axiomatic mathematical systems covered in a constructivist classroom environment that stresses small group work, collaboration, and the importance of rich mathematical discourse.  Prospective mathematics teachers will focus on the content of a sequential mathematics program including: basic arithmetical operations, finite arithmetic, groups, functions and their graphs, geometry, trigonometry, transformations of the Euclidean plane, and matrix operators.
