Fall, Spring, Summer. Inquiry into whether popular culture is the new humanities of the 21st century. This course will explore whether and to what extent popular culture in the contemporary media environment provides resources for artistic expression, formation of individual and group identity, discussion of ides, and imagining of creative solutions to problems. Students will learn methods of textual analysis and concepts of cultural theory and will use them to interpret the meanings of specific examples of contemporary popular culture and assess their impact on society.
