Introduction to Pharmacology

Catalog description
This course introduces pharmacology that integrates concepts of physiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, and nursing to build a foundation for safe administration of medications. The student will explore concepts of drug classification, therapeutic actions, indications, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse effects, contraindications, nursing implications, and drug-drug interactions. Dosage calculation principles will be introduced. Clinical judgment skills will continue to be developed in the classroom setting. Approved for distance education. Prerequisite(s): Admission to Nursing major. Corequisite(s): Junior Level, BSN 1 Courses
