Catalog description

This course examines the ethical, social, and political implications of artificial intelligence in contemporary society. Students will explore critical issues surrounding AI deployment, including intellectual property rights in the age of machine learning, privacy concerns in big data collection and analysis, and the social impact of automated decision-making systems. The course addresses algorithmic bias and discrimination, investigating how AI systems can perpetuate or amplify existing societal inequities. Environmental considerations, including the carbon footprint of large-scale AI operations, will also be analyzed. Through case studies, discussions, and projects, students will develop frameworks for evaluating the ethical dimensions of AI implementation and discuss potential solutions for responsible AI development.
