Impact of factors such as education, race, socio-economic status, ethnicity and gender on language in the classroom and in general usage; effects of culture on language; principles and methods of dialect studies; historical linguistics; World Englishes and the history of English. Cannot receive credit for both LING 4160 and LING 5160. Approved for distance education.
