Catalog description

An exploration of the historical development of the ancient Greek world from its origins to its conquest by Rome. Focal topics include: the rise and fall of early Aegean civilizations; formative developments in the Greek Dark Age such as colonization, tyrannies, and hoplites; the structure of the polis; the Classical Age as the flowering of the polis, ending with the polis’ failure as a viable geopolitical unit; and the Hellenistic Age with the triumph of kingship and the Greco-Macedonian conquest of the Near East.
