History of Asia

Catalog description

This course presents a broad survey of the history of the people of Asia from their earliest known origins to the modern era. The course focuses primarily on “Monsoon Asia” (i.e. East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia) and the modern countries of China, Japan, and India, in particular, as well as select nations of Southeast Asia. The course examines general trends in the political, economic, and socio-cultural history of Asia through lectures, focused readings, and discussion.
