African American History from Slavery to Freedom

Catalog description

An exploration of historical events and historical narratives to evaluate how people have remembered, written about and conveyed African American history, from slavery to the present, through various media. The course embeds African American history within the larger historical narrative of the University States, and the global Black communities. As students critically evaluate primary and secondary sources, they develop their own historical account based on a compelling question, recognizing the civic responsibility involved in the writing of history.
