Introduction to Forensic Science

Catalog description

A survey course designed to ensure students are exposed to the breadth of forensic science disciplines in a full-service crime laboratory. The various disciplines and specialties within forensic science, different types of evidence, and the responsibilities of practitioners will be discussed. Topics include evidence identification, collection, processing, and chain of custody; serology and DNA; bloodstain pattern analysis and crime scene investigation; drug chemistry and toxicology; analysis of trace evidence; impression and tool mark evidence. Credit allowed for only one of FSCI 2000, CHEM 1770 , or CRJU 3100 . Prerequisite(s): FSCI 1910 or BGSU 1910 , and a grade of C or better in CHEM 1270 / CHEM 1280 or CHEM 1370 / CHEM 1380 . Pre- and Non- Forensic Science majors require departmental permission.
