Catalog description

This course examines cinema through the critical lens of either genre or auteur studies. Genre-based courses will introduce the concept of genre as an industrial and cultural practice and consider the conventions (narrative patterns, themes, iconography, visual styles, etc.) of one or more genres (e.g. comedy, science fiction, horror, etc.). Auteur-based courses will investigate the concept of film authorship and provide an intensive analysis of signature styles and themes in the work of one or more auteur directors, screenwriters, producers, and/or stars. Repeatable up to 9 hours if topics differ.
