Catalog description
Introduces students to the critical study of film as entertainment and art, as well as both a commercial and a cultural product. Provides students with an overview of the basic theories and methodologies used to study narrative, documentary and experimental films, and examines the medium of film within an aesthetic, social and industrial context. Using a combination of approaches to viewing, analyzing and writing about movies, this course also considers how films use various cinematic techniques to communicate meaning to viewers. Extra Fee.
